PM Calls for Inspection and Restoration of Irrigation System amidst Prolonged Dry Season

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Manet called for the inspection and restoration of as much of Cambodia’s irrigation system as possible. He noted that this year’s dry season is expected to last longer than usual.

During a Council of Ministers meeting on February 2, the PM advised the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries and the National Committee for Disaster Management and other relevant institutions to be ready to inspect and restore irrigation systems as much as possible to solve water problems because climate change will likely prolong the dry season this year.

He thanked the relevant authorities for their timely intervention to solve the problem of people in some areas. He said that water resources have been drained even more since farmers began growing more rice as its market value increased.
